I've been excited for this movie since I heard about it a few yrs. ago!
So word on the street is that the movie takes place in The N.O. and features Anika Noni Rose(the "other chick" in the Dreamgirls movie...even tho I think she was the best 1) as the Princess and Samuel L. Jackson as the villian. Being the 1st Disney film to feature a black princess...EVER, you already knew it was gonna have some sort of controversy. Apparently, an author is asking the question "do we really need a black princess?" the mother of two(who I believe is black....I just can't find the article I read to confirm this fact) is claiming that this movie is not what black girls need. She believes that it is just gonna teach a "high and mighty" mentality that we don't need to have in this day and age and basically just called the movie unecessary.
Well I have this to say:Take that stick out your ass and live a little!!! I really wish that people would stop punishing THE ARTS just because parents aren't doing their job and teaching their kids the difference between reality and fantasy! I swear I could write a whole freakin dissertation about this issue. When I was growing up, I had all the Disney movies, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid...all of them. Watched them all the time, knew all the lines and the songs by heart. But guess what, the MINUTE I decided that I wanted to be Princess Jasmine around my house, my parents slapped my ass back to reality. Parents...you can say "no"...you do have that power. The problem is ya'll haven't been sayin "no" from the beginning so now you got kids walking around thinking they can have everything they want and knowing how to throw strategic fits just in case you decide to grow some balls and deny their requests. The everybody wants to blame "outside sources" like Paris Hilton, The Hills, and celebrities for their kids wanting to be like them...child please. I watch all those shows, know all the celeb gossip, nd watch Disney movies...my parents just made sure that each time I watched them, I realized that their reality WAS NOT my reality. And it really only takes 2 secs to let them know. So stop hatin and let the kids enjoy life a lil!
